Make 2020 your year and start your fertility journey. The festive season is over, before seeking fertility advice from a medical expert why not get ahead of the game? We at IVI have pulled together some helpful hints and tips on how to improve your health and increase your fertility and get your year off to a great start.
Balance your BMI
An unhealthy BMI can have an impact on your ability to conceive. If you are under or overweight it can cause hormone imbalances and therefore affect your ovulation. It is recommended that your BMI is around 20-30% when trying to fall pregnant. If your BMI is considered unhealthy, start exercising, eat healthier and take control. Don’t let your BMI be a contributing factor to your infertility. Want to know what your BMI is? Click here to learn more!
Track your period to learn more about yourself
Only you can determine what is normal for you and what isn’t. In one of our previous blogs, we have discussed how tracking your period could be a really good start to monitoring your fertility. Keep a note of your cycle so when you come for your first consultation you are prepared.
The glass is always half full
When you are going through a tough time it is only natural to think about the negatives and forget about the good things you have going on in your life. It is really important to focus on the future. Take every new cycle as a new opportunity and celebrate the areas of the fertility journey that are going well, like your health.
Get your beauty sleep
Sleep is one of the most important elements to a healthy lifestyle, rejuvenating your body and boosting energy. It is recommended that an adult gets between seven and nine hours sleep a night so find yourself a routine that works for you and stick to it. From 10 pm until 2 am is when your body repairs itself so the earlier you go to bed the better, even on weekends. Haven’t you ever heard the saying ‘one hour at night is worth two in the morning’? So regardless of whether you get to have a lay-in in the morning or not, get to bed early and allow your body to recharge and allow it to prepare for the battle of infertility.
Drink lots of water
The smallest changes to your everyday life can help increase your chances of conception, even down to the amount of water you drink. It is recommended for an adult to drink at least two litres of water a day, in doing so you help your body work more efficiently, increase your energy levels, flush out your kidneys and improve the quality of your cervical fluid.
Your feelings are normal
Your fertility journey can be a tough one, a roller coaster of emotions with tough and testing times. We at IVI do our best to make the journey as easy as possible for you; however the likelihood is you are going to be stressed and upset at some point along the way. The best thing you can do is accept it! Accept that you are going to feel like this, it is completely normal considering what you are going through, the most important thing to remember is that you are not alone and you always have people you can talk to.
Relax!
How you choose to relax is up to you. Go to a spa, meet up with friends, do yoga. Whichever you decide, make sure you take the time to switch off from the outside world and take some ‘you time’, turn off your phone and designate a specific time for you to rest.
Start 2020 off right. Make it happen, book a first consultation with IVI and make this year your year.
